At Suburban Eye Care we have three specially trained doctors to help you preserve, improve, and protect your vision.
Dr. Jacobi
Dr. John P. Jacobi attended Michigan’s College of Optometry, Ferris State University, receiving his doctorate in 1988. Following graduation, he was accepted as an associate and then as a partner at Suburban Eye Care. He served as President of the Optometric Institute and Clinic of Detroit, a non-profit mission to offer health care to our inner city, for 8 years. He is now serving as state director of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Jacobi has successfully diagnosed and treated many children and adults with strabismus (turned eyes), amblyopia (lazy eyes), and vision related learning problems for the past 20 years.
Dr. Smith
Dr. Sheldon L. Smith is one of the top Low Vision practioners in Michigan and the country. Low vision care involves restoring visual function to people with significant loss of sight. Dr. Smith aids researchers in developing new products for the partially sighted. Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS). Members of the IALVS convene annually to advance the field of low vision and meet top optical designers and manufacturers. Dr. Smith helps Suburban remain at the forefront of eye care in Metro Detroit. His years of experience, knowledge and patient care are integral in creating excellence at Suburban Eye Care, P.C.
Dr. Hoey
Dr. Sally E. Hoey began working at our office in 1996 as an optometric technician. This is where she found her desire for helping people and decided that her career aspiration was to become an optometrist. She then left Suburban to attend Michigan College of Optometry in Big Rapids, Michigan. After receiving her doctorate in 2001, she began working and discovered her desire to treat patients that suffer from vision related learning problems. In September of 2008 she joined our practice as an optometrist to continue her lifelong goal of helping individuals of all ages.
